How To Prevent Sweating in Prosthesis During Summers?

As summer season is approaching, the main concern during this time is dehydration which is caused due to excessive sweating. Be it anyone, sweating always causes irritation and bad odor. Sweat accumulation in your prosthesis could result from summer heat especially if you have a busy lifestyle. The risks of excessive sweating will be covered in this article from certified prosthetist and orthotist, along with several solutions that may be used to manage this issue.

Risk of Skin Damage:

Your skin serves as your body's first line of defense against infection. The earliest signs of a problem are rashes, inflammation, and/or a skin illness which may be quite bothersome. This environment is ideal for bacteria to grow and cause a number of skin &health problems.

The longer extra moisture is allowed to stay on your skin, the more likely problems are to develop. Your sweat-soaked, moistened skin rubs against the socket as blisters develop as a result of this contact. If left untreated, these blisters could grow infected, uncomfortable, and turn into a severe acute systemic blood infection.

Another problem that could arise for person with amputation is sweat accumulation inside the gel lining that result as liner begins to peel away from the skin. Your prosthetic leg fitting will change as a result of your suspension. Your leg will move more as a result, increasing your chance of skin degradation and the previously listed problems.

Things You Can DoTo avoid Sweat:

If you sweat a lot then taking necessary precautions is a must for prosthetic care. By considering your needs and packing the necessary things you need in order to keep perspiration to a minimum, you may avoid the issues that excessive sweating within your prosthesis might cause. Here is a list of safety measures you should follow before performing any activity that could cause you to sweat.

Ensure your gel liner is in good condition and fits perfectly. Before you start any activity, tighten up any loose liners. A liner that is loose enables more sweat to collect.

Take breaks frequently to take off your limb prosthetics and wipe the sweat off. Carry a washcloth, an extra sheath, or a pair of cotton socks. When reapplying your prosthesis, replace the wet sheath or sock for one of the dry ones you brought with you.

Wear some of the more sophisticated absorbent socks. They fit underneath your liner and are designed to hold more perspiration.

Also, a brand-new material as breathable liner is accessible in the Prosthetic centers. There is less perspiration generation thanks to this new solution, which has been demonstrated to reduce skin temperatures.

Use these suggestions to enjoy the outdoors all year round. For advice suited to your circumstances and situation, be sure to speak with your certified prosthetist. You can also visit Artalive for more details on Prosthetic limbs.
