How To Prevent Sweating in Prosthesis During Summers?

As summer season is approaching, the main concern during this time is dehydration which is caused due to excessive sweating. Be it anyone, sweating always causes irritation and bad odor. Sweat accumulation in your prosthesis could result from summer heat especially if you have a busy lifestyle. The risks of excessive sweating will be covered in this article from certified prosthetist and orthotist, along with several solutions that may be used to manage this issue.

Risk of Skin Damage:

Your skin serves as your body's first line of defense against infection. The earliest signs of a problem are rashes, inflammation, and/or a skin illness which may be quite bothersome. This environment is ideal for bacteria to grow and cause a number of skin &health problems.

The longer extra moisture is allowed to stay on your skin, the more likely problems are to develop. Your sweat-soaked, moistened skin rubs against the socket as blisters develop as a result of this contact. If left untreated, these blisters could grow infected, uncomfortable, and turn into a severe acute systemic blood infection.

Another problem that could arise for person with amputation is sweat accumulation inside the gel lining that result as liner begins to peel away from the skin. Your prosthetic leg fitting will change as a result of your suspension. Your leg will move more as a result, increasing your chance of skin degradation and the previously listed problems.

Things You Can DoTo avoid Sweat:

If you sweat a lot then taking necessary precautions is a must for prosthetic care. By considering your needs and packing the necessary things you need in order to keep perspiration to a minimum, you may avoid the issues that excessive sweating within your prosthesis might cause. Here is a list of safety measures you should follow before performing any activity that could cause you to sweat.

● Ensure your gel liner is in good condition and fits perfectly. Before you start any activity, tighten up any loose liners. A liner that is loose enables more sweat to collect.

● Take breaks frequently to take off your limb prosthetics and wipe the sweat off. Carry a washcloth, an extra sheath, or a pair of cotton socks. When reapplying your prosthesis, replace the wet sheath or sock for one of the dry ones you brought with you.

● Wear some of the more sophisticated absorbent socks. They fit underneath your liner and are designed to hold more perspiration.

● Also, a brand-new material as breathable liner is accessible in the Prosthetic centers. There is less perspiration generation thanks to this new solution, which has been demonstrated to reduce skin temperatures.

Use these suggestions to enjoy the outdoors all year round. For advice suited to your circumstances and situation, be sure to speak with your certified prosthetist. You can also visit Artalive for more details on Prosthetic limbs.

The Benefits of Prosthetic Hands for People with Disabilities

The world is aware that prosthetic hands are available to assist people with disabilities. People living with disabilities have been using prosthetic hands for a long time, and they’re no longer just toappear. In fact, many people who want to work with their prosthetic hands might want a less complex but more functional hand that’s also comfortable on their wrist—or maybe even better, on their arm! We all know that prosthetics can be helpful when used right. If you’re like most people and have experienced both left and right-hand use as a child or teenager, it’s time to learn more about the pros and cons of having special hands (prosthetic hands) altogether.

What’s the difference between a prosthetic hand and a real hand?

First and foremost, each prosthetic hand has its own unique functions. A hand is not a machine. It has its own personality& functionality and needs a owner to handle it. A prosthetic hand doesn’t replace the human hand in any way. It’s an extension of that hand which is meant to help people with disabilities navigate the world around them. In a real hand, you’d be able to use your fingertips to make contact with objects or do other simple tasks as well as fine motor functions. With a prosthetic hand, you’ll also be able to use your fingertips/finger movements to hold or grasp objects but there will be difference compared to a real & prosthetic hand.

Why prosthetics benefit people with disabilities

Ultimately, every technology has its own place doing something useful for the society and can make a big difference in the livelihood of people with disabilities. With that in mind, it was worth for the development of prosthetics truly began. As a result, there’s even more demand for prosthetics in the world today.

Diabetes and Its Potential Effects on the Foot

More particularly, we discuss taking care of feet normally but today we will discuss about diabetic foot care and how it can affect you. Diabetes is a serious, complex disorder that can affect the entire body. Diabetes necessitates regular self-care, and if problems arise, diabetes can significantly lower life expectancy and lower quality of life. Because diabetes can harm your feet’s nerves, blood flow, and infection, your feet are at risk. Diabetes can lead to foot ulcers and broken limbs more likely. This harm is more probable if:

● For a very long time, you have had diabetes.

● For a long time, your levels of blood glucose have been too high.

● You smoke; smoking decreases the blood flow to your feet, which slows the healing of wounds.

● You are not active in your daily life.

An eczema is a wound that forms on your diabetic foot. Untreated chronic wounds can result in osteomyelitis, a bone infection that can spread throughout the body. To ensure effective therapy and lower the risk of limb, early and precise diagnosis is essential. People with diabetes are 15 times more likely to experience improper diabetic foot care, which can raise the risk of amputation.

Diabetic foot care and warning signs

● You must daily care for your feet if you have diabetes.

● Daily maintenance can avoid severe consequences.

● Every day, check your feet for any changes or issues.

● If your legs are at high risk, see a podiatrist more frequently or once a year for a checkup.

Options for Prosthetic limbs

You can get an artificial limb specifically for you if you’ve undergone a partial foot amputation. This may also be referred to as a partial foot prosthesis or a toe filler. The prosthetic limb helps to restore the foot’s anatomical contour and can be made to relieve pressure and improve balance. Ask your prosthetic center which options would be best for you. Visit Artalive for more details on prosthetic care and decide which one is best for you.

Using Prosthesis to Motivate Amputees-Techniques for a Better 2023

Losing a limb is never simple, but it is also possible to avoid depression and anguish. With the correct prosthesis care and loved one’s support from amputees can support their livelihood and contribute to society. In this Blog, we will try to show some methods amputees might apply to stay motivated in the coming future.

Realize Your Worth

People with amputations who are confident in their own way are typically happier than people who are not. Those who possess this intrinsic confidence are considerably better equipped than those who don’t to deal with setbacks like losing a leg or having an amputee procedure that is either failed or incomplete. Knowing your value as an individual and what you can accomplish without your prosthesis are key components of this method.

Set objectives for the future.

Setting goals helps people feel like their lives have meaning beyond just immense pain or depression caused by losing a limb or the inability to use particular body parts. These Future-focused objectives change according to the amputee’s circumstances. For instance, some people may wish to grow their business and achieve greater success than before undergoing an amputation procedure, but others may prioritize getting married or have a family.

Discover Meaning in Your Challenges

Individuals who have never dealt with pain, despair, or any other hardship find it challenging to comprehend how suffering might serve as a motivating force. But for some amputees, these hardships give their lives purpose and fortify them as people. Because they are aware that the future is never sure, they learn to appreciate the present and stop taking things for granted.

Respect what you already have

Despite all the difficulties you confront, this technique focuses on recognizing your blessings and showing gratitude for what you already have. When a storm is raging, it may be difficult to see the bright side, but once it has passed, you will see it more clearly.

Coming towards conclusion:

Amputees who are undergoing rehabilitation after amputation can benefit greatly from using prosthetic limbs. It expedites their return to their regular activities and lessens the chance of appearing of complexities. Furthermore, it can aid in restoring their range of motion and helps to increase their strength. If you have lost a limb, think about getting benefitted through a prosthesis centre to restore your action and activities.

Easy Steps To Put Your Prosthetic Legs

Learning about taking care of your Prosthetic is important but how to wear it and remove it is also a basic duty and most important for a person having prosthetic legs. Do not need to worry, your prosthetist medical expert will guide you with the correct steps on how to wear it and remove it so that you can become independent and move freely without any hassle. Our experts from Artalive have also drafted some easy steps on how to place your prosthetic legs. Read on the blog below.

1) Firstly sit on a firm surface to avoid creases, and carefully pull or fold your socks onto your lower leg. Your scar should not be touched by the seam.

2) Bend the artificial knee and point the artificial foot outwards. If your knee is locked, first release it by applying pressure with your thumb to the lever at the front of the socket.

Note: For the lock to work properly on some knees, you may need to apply some pressure. If In a major case your knee requires pressure being applied to the toe, your prosthetist will let you know.

3) Insert your residual leg (stump), keeping the foot slightly pulled out.

4) Wrap the leather belt around your waistline and secure it with the front buckle.

5) Fold the stump socks over the socket rim. This makes it more comfortable and stops the sock from sliding down.

6) Before putting on a shirt or blouse, cross the shoulder strap you were handed over the shoulder on the other side and secure it to the stud on the front of the pelvic band.

7) Place your prosthetic foot slightly in front of you while you sit on the edge of the bed. Utilizing your hands, push yourself out of bed to stand up. Push the residual limb back to straighten the knee joint, if you have a walking frame, and stand up straight.

8) If you have a locked knee on an artificial limb, it will lock instantly and you will typically hear a click.  Make sure the knee is properly locked before you start walking.

9) Check if the artificial foot is still pointing slightly out by looking down at it. If not, get back in your seat and readjust your stump in the socket or adjust the belt and shoulder strap. Put your own leg inside the second trouser leg, pull up, and fasten if you're wearing pants.

Done. You can now start walking. These are a few easy steps you need to follow for wearing your Prosthetic legs.

"How To Safeguard And Maintain Your Artificial Limb"

Once an arm or any extremity is amputated or lost, rehabilitation might benefit greatly from the use of a prosthetic device, or prosthesis. A prosthetic limb can increase movement, help with daily tasks, and give many people the means to retain their everyday tasks.

The prosthetic limb needs routine care because it is a mechanical device with many moving parts. It is your duty as a prosthetic user to maintain the limb socks clean and to keep the prosthetic socket and liner free of debris, fluff, or dust.

Clean It Everyday:

Do you have questions about how to properly clean a prosthetic limb or a prosthetic leg? We have got you covered. Clean thermoplastic sockets and liners with warm water and mild soap. Avoid using aggressive cleaning products since they could harm the fabric.

Don't Modify:

It may be tempting to readjust anything yourself if it feels out of place, but you should never do so when it comes to leg maintenance and prosthetic socket care. For instance, tightening the incorrect screw could harm the socket, putting you at danger for breakdown. As your limb adjusts to its socket throughout the early periods of rehabilitation, adjustments will be necessary. Your doctor should always make these adjustments.

Keep Water Damage at Bay:

When caring for an upper or lower limb prosthesis, it is important to keep it out of the water (including showering, washing, and swimming), since this can cause rust and harm to delicate mechanical components. You might want to talk about the possibilities of a waterproof prosthesis if you participate in water activities.

In Short- The journey of prosthetic rehabilitation:

As you become adjusted to new maintenance routines and enhanced mobility, new amputees take some time to get used to wearing a prosthesis. Always consult your doctor if you're unsure how to care for prosthesis or have any questions. Artalive suggests the best course of action because they are experienced and sensitive to your particular demands.

" Diabetic Foot "

Diabetes  Mellitus is a chronic disease that affects up to 6% of the population (higher in the older age groups).

  • Type of Diabetes
Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas acts like a key to let blood sugar into the cells in your body for use as energy. When diabetes is present, either the body produces less or no insulin (Type 1) or the body tissues are resistant to the effects of diabetes (Type 2). This results in higher levels of glucose in the blood, which can damage a whole range of body tissues and organs.

  • The foot is especially affected by diabetes because:

Diabetes damages the nerves (damage can occur to the foot and not be detected because of lack of sensation) – this is called peripheral neuropathy.
-diabetes also affect the circulation. Poor circulation can affect the ability of the body to heal when damage occurs.
-those with diabetes are more prone to infection – the body’s processes that normally fight infection respond slower and often have trouble getting to infections due to the poor circulation.

  • How Diabetes is the main cause of foot amputations ?

Charcot’s joints is another complication of diabetes in the foot, especially if peripheral neuropathy is present – the neuropathy cause a numbness (imagine spraining your ankle and not knowing you have done this. You will continue to walk on it – imagine the damage that this would do. This is what happens in a Charcot foot)
  • Management
If you have diabetes, there are a lot of things you need to do to prevent the problems from developing in your feet:

1. Checking blood sugar levels
2. Wash your feet daily (use a mild soap and lukewarm water).
3. Inspect your foot daily (check sores, cuts, bruises, changes to the toenails; use a mirror to look under the foot if you can not see it).
5. Look after your feet (e.g. cut toenails often, do not try remove corns and calluses yourself, avoid walking barefoot
6. Fitting of footwear is very important.
7. Wear an orthotic that offloads pressure on your feet.
8. See your doctor, at least annually.
Custom made insoles are designed to  give extra comfort  and relieve foot pain,  Indicated for diabetic patients with neuropathic foot, corns, callus and patient who are prone to get wounds on the plantar surface.
Also It provides targeted offloading on the pressure sensitive areas or uniform weight bearing over the plantar surfaces.

What to do in the journey from surgery to fitting

Many people want to live their life normally with the help of prosthetic body parts, so they get ready to undergo surgery. The surgery of prosthetic and its fitting is a good plan procedure. Prosthetics encompass a wide cluster of counterfeit gadgets that work by supplanting or going about as expansions of, body parts that might have been harmed or are absent because of a mishap, illness, birth imperfection, or because of a horrendous physical issue, for example, commonly happens when individuals from the military are associated with combat activities. They are ordinarily joined to the amended stump, wound, tissue, or bone by an assortment of techniques to empower reclamation of lost actual capacity.

Preparing for Surgery

To get the amputation surgery done, first of all, you have to prepare yourself both mentally and physically. For amputation, first of all, you will need a good professional team who will support you in the whole process. The support of your family and friends also makes you feel very good, so it is good if everyone is together.

Finding the Right Medical Team

First of all, you have to get complete information about your surgery team so that you do not face any kind of problem. All these expert team members and doctors come from different backgrounds and work together to give you service. That’s why you must be completely sure before choosing someone for your surgery. By the way, if you want, you can also collect information online, which will help you in taking the right decision.

Getting Your Body Ready for Amputation

Whenever you prepare for prosthetic surgery, first of all, prepare your body for it so that you can accept the changes taking place in your body. For this, you have to exercise and follow your amputation expert as you say. You have to keep in mind that in the future you have to work through your prosthetic limbs. For this, you must accept this thing mentally and be ready.

Build a Support System

Whenever you have prosthetic surgery, you must arrange a support system for yourself. This support system can be your family members or friends and also your doctors. Whoever supports you in those difficult times and increases your courage, then understand that he is your support system. If you want, you can talk to some people who have done this surgery before. By talking to such people, you will get courage and their experience will also benefit.

Surgery and Recovery

Everyone’s surgery and experience during surgery are different as each person is different for himself. When you know that your doctors and their team are experts in their work then you can rest assured. And this thing will help you in recovery from your amputation. You will feel that you will make a quick recovery because your surgery has been done right that too by safe doctors.

After the surgery, you will have to take some time for yourself so that you can recover as soon as possible. It takes time to reduce the pain and swelling of surgery and you have to keep yourself calm at the same time, any kind of haste can harm you.

Rehabilitation

When your surgery is done, you will need to focus on your physical therapy as soon as possible so that you can use your prosthetics easily. You should take complete rest for 24 hours after surgery.

First of all, you should start it with small tasks like getting up from bed, going to the bathroom, going to the kitchen. After this, you should gradually increase your working power and also pay attention to your exercise. As soon as you get used to using the prosthetic limbs, you will be able to return to your life completely.

Adjusting to Your Prosthesis

Prosthetics surgery is not a common surgery, but artificial parts are attached to the natural parts of your body so that you can do your daily activities easily. In this, technology is used in such a way that you can easily use these parts. 3D printing, moulding, and scanning all ensure that your organ transplant is done correctly.

Whenever wearing or applying this device, keep in mind that your body parts are fully prepared for it. Your skin should be clean and there should be no wound or injury of any kind. It is even better if you have prosthetic socks so that you can easily wear and adjust the prosthetics. Along with this, you also have to keep in touch with your doctor and keep telling your progress. Be that as it may, prosthetics surgery and recovery is a long process so you have to go through it with patience.
